And in the Sky the Larks, Still Bravely Singing, Fly

And in the Sky the Larks, Still Bravely Singing, Fly

Acrylic on Canvas | 24"x18" | 2015

This piece was painted from the perspective of a fallen soldier, dying in a field of poppies. As he looks into the sky, he sees a lark fly out of the battle smoke and into the bright, blue sky beyond. As he takes his last breath, he contemplates its beauty and feels a sense of hope and peace.

The original painting was part of the "Remembering In Flanders Fields" Juried Art Exhibition, which commemorated the poem's 100th anniversary in John McCrae's hometown of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. It currently resides in a private collection.
